Begin Again: Healing Through Meditative Art
Post One – Welcome to the Practice
There are parts of us that don’t speak in words. They move in color, in rhythm, in the quiet between thoughts. They live in the hush of paper, the swirl of ink, the drag of pencil across page.
Welcome to Line and Lore—a design studio, yes, but also something more:
A creative haven.
A place where meditative art becomes a form of healing.
A way to return to yourself through stillness and shape.
The mission of this blog is to create a quiet corner of the internet for anyone who feels like they’ve drifted away from their creative self. Here, we’ll explore returning to the oldest language you know: making something with your own two hands.—through color, texture, memory, movement, and story.
The focus is not to be “good” at drawing. It’s about being real. Present. Gentle. Unpolished. Curious.
I’ve spent 26 years building digital brands—drawing by hand and by tablet, designing for others, and more recently, collaborating with AI. These tools are powerful, and I use them daily. But in the midst of all that speed and polish, I’ve come to crave something different:
Slowness.
Texture.
Truth.
Art has always helped me find my way back. As a child, I would draw when the world felt too loud. As an adult, I return to it when I need clarity, calm, or simply a pause.
Each week or so, I’ll post a new Creative Invitation: a visual or written prompt designed to help you slow down, reflect, and create art that feels honest.
No need to share unless you want to.
This is a safe space for:
The joy you want to hold tighter.
The grief you haven’t named yet.
The untold stories living in your fingertips.
The art you’ve never given yourself permission to make.
All you need is a notebook, a paintbrush, a pen… or even a tablet. Simply choose your favorite medium.
I’m so glad you’re here.
Let’s begin again.
—with warmth,
Jill Del Sordi
This Week’s Creative Invitation:
Lines of Feeling
Take a moment to get quiet.
Sit with your breath. Let your body settle.
Now choose a few emotions or energies you’ve been feeling lately—maybe calm, grief, hope, restlessness, or joy.
Assign each one a kind of line:
Calm might look like soft waves.
Restlessness might be sharp and zigzagged.
Hope might spiral or rise in gentle arcs.
With pen, pencil, paint, or digital brush, fill a page with those lines.
Let your hand move how it wants. Let the feelings live as shape and motion.
Let your page become a tangle or a rhythm of emotional marks.
This is pure, abstract meditative expression.
This is not a drawing to analyze or explain.
It’s simply a way to listen—to give form to something real inside you.
If you feel moved to share what you create, I’d be honored to see it. You’re welcome to contact me anytime—no pressure, no critique. Your creative path is entirely your own, and I’ll always respect the pace, privacy, and rhythm of your process.
Next Week’s Invitation:
Self-Portrait
We’ll explore how to express who you are—not through eyes, smile, or likeness—but through color, shape, and symbol. A gentle invitation to reflect on how it feels to be you, without any explanation. Choose your favorite medium. I personally plan to use collage and illustration.
